West Fest Summer Festival 2016

July 8 - July 10
Chicago Avenue between Damen and Wood

Organizers of this year’s West Fest have added a third night of festivities in honor of the 10th anniversary of the popular DJ stage. Hailed as one of the best summer festivals in Chicagoland by Chicago Tribune, the 12th annual West Fest returns to Chicago Avenue Friday, July 8 through Sunday, July 10. The 2016 edition features some of the most critically-acclaimed bands of fest season programmed by West Town’s renowned music venue, Empty Bottle, which today announced wave 1 headliners (the festival has also announced DJ stage headliners). In addition, West Fest 2016 brings back a wide array of the neighborhood’s hottest vendors, artisans and restaurants, as well as Pet Fest and Kid Fest.

“Over these three days, we’ll show you why West Town has been called one of the hottest neighborhoods in the country,” said Kara Salgado, executive director at the West Town Chamber of Commerce.  Unlike most of the other summer fests, the emphasis at West Fest is ‘local,’ from the food to the music programmer. Lined with independent, locally-owned businesses, West Town’s streets continue to blossom with new restaurants, galleries, boutiques and services – many of them represented as vendors at West Fest.

The Music
West Fest’s music lineups have been called some of the “tops” of the summer by several music critics over the last few years – right up there with big ticket concerts (and only at a fraction of the cost!).  West Fest’s 2016’s lineup features a Main Stage with dozens of original bands and a DJ Stage with dozens of “Chicago House” DJs, including long-time West Fest favorites Derrick Carter and Mark Farina, playing continuously on two stages throughout the 3-day weekend. Artists announced in wave 1 are as follows:

The Main Stage
Craig Finn
Cloud Nothings
The Eternals
Natural Child

The DJ Stage
Mark Farina
Derrick Carter
Heather & Collette
Jevon Jackson
Dj Lady D

The Live Art-Making On Site
West Fest 2016 is featuring a group of local artists to create artwork live on site throughout the weekend.  Always an inspiring visual experience for viewers, the live art-making demos are sponsored by local galleries who provide the artists.  All works done on-site are then available for sale.

The Kid Fest
Kid Fest (Wolcott at Chicago) is the ultimate fest-within-a-fest, which runs Saturday and Sunday from 12pm noon to 7pm. This year Kid Fest is being organized by West Fest local school benefactors Talcott Museum and Fine Arts Academy.  Kid Fest 2016 will feature many popular activities including train rides, bouncy houses, bean bag toss, ring toss, balloon darts, football toss, bottle toss, photo booth and an obstacle course.  The Kid Fest Stage will feature a fun family friendly lineup from a who’s who of Chicago’s children entertainers.
100% of the proceeds raised by Kid Fest benefit Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy. Talcott also receives 10% of the proceeds from donations collected at West Fest main gates.

The Pet Fest
Pet Fest is another fest-within-a-fest, this one dedicated to dog activities for charity and pet related retail vendors. Well behaved dogs, which are allowed on leashes at West Fest, are invited to 'woof' it up all weekend here.  This annual event raises funds for local animal rescues by hosting various dog activities as well as a charity dog wash.  Pooches can express their inner animal creativity with paw painting, bandana tie-dying, basic training from local dog trainers, and more. Canine Crews organizes and sponsors Pet Fest.

The Fine Print
There is a $5 donation requested for entry to West Fest to offset the costs of the event and to benefit the West Town Chamber of Commerce and Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy. The event location is Chicago Ave between Damen and Wood. Hours of operation are 5pm-10pm on Friday and 12pm-10pm Saturday & Sunday (Kid Fest is noon to 7 pm).
